What to expect in the next few weeks

This is a period in which you may want to keep an eye on the following things… – Week 1: The first games of the season are all set to take place on Friday, September 5. The first week of games is a period of transition for both teams and fans. Most teams will have only just returned to practice after a long break for Labor Day. The first weekend of play is also a time of transition for the national media. During this time, many national publications will shift their coverage to providing their analysis of high school football when it moves to the fall. This week will also be a period in which school administrators and coaches may get their first sense of how the season will go. – Week 2: The second week of games will feature another game week transition, as Week 1 games will officially be put into the rearview mirror. Fans and teams get back into the swing of things, and get more accustomed to the new season. Week 2 also marks the beginning of California’s football season, with games being played across the state. This week will be a period of transition for the CIF, as the organization will begin its new season in Week 2. The CIF website and other related resources will also be undergoing change. – Week 3: The third week of games is another transition period, as the state of California will begin its quarter system. For the rest of the country, this change to a four-quarter system has been in effect for some time, but it is new to California high school football fans. Week 3 will also be a period of transition for the postseason nationally. The playoff format will be changing following the 2021 season, with the 2022 season being the last to use the previous format. – Week 4: The fourth week of games sees the start of the playoffs as the best two teams in each state (based on points accumulated during the regular season) will qualify for this week-long tournament. The tournament is a wild and exciting week of high school football, and is followed by a five-day break until Week 5. The playoff format will also be changing again following Week 4. That season, the field for the playoffs will be expanded to an 18-team field, with a new system for determining which teams qualify for the postseason. – Week 5: The fifth week of play sees the playoffs return, with the same field of teams that competed in the previous week. The half-time show will also make its return. In Week 5, the state association championship game will be played, and the National Championship will be decided. These two activities are the only ones that will be taking place across the country.

What you need to know about the 2022 CIF Football Rule Changes

– Play Clock: Prior to the rule change, the play clock was set to 15 seconds in the first half, 30 seconds in the second half, and 10 seconds between plays. With the new play clock, the play clock will remain at 15 seconds in the first half, 30 seconds in the second half, and 10 seconds between plays. – Starting at the 25-second mark, the clock will sound and stop (with the exception of the extra point attempt), and the play will start when the ball is “snapped.” This means that at the 25-second mark, the ball will be put into play, and the play clock will begin to run. Once the play is in motion, the play clock will remain at 15 seconds in the first half, 30 seconds in the second half, and 10 seconds between plays. – At the end of a play, the clock will reset to 25 seconds. – If a team is in possession of the ball, or the ball is dead, the play clock will reset to 25 seconds at the end of each play.
