Heavyweight high school football showdown between Mater Dei (California) and Duncanville (Texas) set for August 27

Heavyweight High School Football

Two of the simplest high school football programs within the nation will go toe-to-toe on August 27 when Duncanville hosts Mater Dei during a massive California vs. Texas showdown. The matchup that was put together by Joe Maimone of Prep Gridiron Logistics is tentatively set to be broadcast on FloSports.

“I founded Prep Gridiron Logistics (PGL) back in 2015 only for games like this one,” said Maimone. “For decades the high school football world has been debating which is that the No. 1 state in America. This game will help answer that question.

PGL loves working with Duncanville. they’re far and away from the foremost aggressive and courageous team in Texas when it involves out-of-state scheduling. Coach (Reginald) Samples and company are a desirable host for all the proper and just reasons.”

Mater Dei, which won the high school Football America national championship in 2017 and 2018, is coming off a 5-0 COVID-19 shortened spring season. The Monarchs finished No. 7 within the combined 2020-21 high school Football America 100 powered by NFL Play Football, the NFL’s initiative to supply fun and interesting experience for players of all ages and skill levels.

Duncanville was ranked No. 14 nationally in 2020-21 after advancing to the Class 6A Division I state semifinals. The Panther’s only two losses came against national champ IMG Academy (41-14) and Texas 6A-I state runner-up Southlake Carroll (34-27), which finished No. 13 in our Top 100.

Both teams will be highly-ranked when the 2021 Preseason High School Football America 100 is released.

This is the primary marquee Texas vs. California game since De La Salle traveled to the Lone Star State to play Euless Trinity in 2015. Euless Trinity won that contest 26-21.

DLS was scheduled to play two-time defending Texas champ North Shore last year, but the sport was canceled thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

This will be Mater Dei’s first game against a Texas opponent. Since 2017, Mater Dei has beaten out-of-state opponents in Bergen Catholic (New Jersey), Bishop Gorman (Nevada) twice, Centennial (Arizona), IMG Academy, St. Frances Academy (Maryland), and St. John’s college high school (Washington, D.C.)

“Mater Dei vs. Duncanville is far and away from the foremost high-profile game PGL has ever promoted,” said Maimone. “PGLs new partnership with FloSports will only cause more great matchups like this within the years to return .”
